Lukee - @billy.lurk.tattooer
November 8, 2020how long have you been tattooing for?
“I first tattooed myself when I was 15 with a sewing needle and Indian ink (which I in no way condone). From there I dropped out of school and got an apprenticeship at 16, got 2 years experience and then left - came back just before my 21st birthday, finished my apprenticeship off, and was christened a junior artist in October of 2019. So like 4-5 years total experience, and a year as a junior artist.”
when did you realise tattooing was for you?
“When I started watching Miami ink at like 12 years old. But it was confirmed when I came back at 21, I just knew.”
how has the current situation with the lockdown and the second lockdown effected you and your business?
“I mean we’ve been left with barely any notice and zero pay! And of course I can’t do the thing I love - which is a killer… I understand the reason behind the lockdown, however I struggle to believe our masked one-on-one appointments were contributing to the spread of COVID. All I pray is that the government don’t neglect us like they did during the last lockdown - being one of the last industries to reopen was just another kick while we were already down.”
what’s been your weirdest experience tattooing?
“I’m pretty thankful not many weird things have happened. We did once had a guy in for a consultation who from the get go gave me some odd vibes - by the end of his appointment he was topless, playing music off of his phone (over our music), prancing around the shop and challenging everyone to arm wrestles. My client agreed and won”
